Yogi govt allocates funds for road safety and transport department

Lucknow, 7 December: Under the guidance of the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government has taken many major steps to accelerate road safety, modern transport infrastructure and technological strengthening.

The proposals of many important capital and revenue schemes of UP Transport Department and Traffic Directorate for the financial year 2025-26 have been approved in the meeting of the Chief Secretary.

Under these schemes, special attention has been given to state-of-the-art electronic enforcement devices, expansion of CCTV network, equipment for BTTE units, K-in-motion sensors, purchase of interceptor vehicles and activities promoting traffic awareness.

Funds approved for CCTV installation at intersections in Lucknow and Moradabad. In order to promote road safety and reduce accidents, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department and Traffic Directorate approved necessary proposals for the year 2025-26 at the Chief Secretary’s meeting.

Under this, an amount of ₹4.96 crore has been approved for the installation of CCTV cameras at major intersections in the capital, Lucknow. Additionally, an amount of approximately ₹3.10 crore has been approved for the installation of integrated CCTV cameras at major intersections in Moradabad and Ballia districts. Additionally, ₹1.28 crore has been approved for the purchase of truck simulators and other technical equipment for BTTE units. Furthermore, the purchase of vehicles for the BTTE Hansi unit has also been approved.

Also, electronic enforcement devices will be installed in 20 high-risk districts. According to a state government spokesperson, the plan to install electronic enforcement devices in 25 high-risk districts of the state through the DRSC is being rapidly progressed. The Transport Department and the Traffic Directorate have approved an amount of ₹25 crore (₹1 crore) for the high-risk districts, at the rate of ₹1 crore (₹1 crore) per district. An additional ₹25 crore (₹50 lakh) has been approved for the remaining districts.

During the review meeting, the Transport Department official stated that ₹19.95 crore (₹19.95 crore) was approved for interceptor vehicles and other equipment in 2024-25, of which approximately ₹17.15 crore (₹17.15 crore) has been used to purchase 70 interceptor vehicles.

He also stated that ₹14.05 crore (₹14.05 crore) has been approved for 18 Key-in-Motion sensors. The department has also sent new proposals for construction of platforms and additional structures to make the sensors more effective.

Several schemes approved for road safety awareness campaigns. To increase road safety awareness in the state, revenue schemes worth more than ₹2.10 crore have been approved for the promotion of traffic rules, e-challan system, signage boards, internet services, equipment repair, mobile recharge, and campaigns.

Additionally, the Traffic Directorate will purchase 4,500 iron barriers, 4,525 folding barriers, 7,200 safety helmets, 8,000 fluorescent jackets, 270 breath analyzers, 85 speed laser guns, 15 four-wheeled and 62 two-wheeled interceptor vehicles at a cost of ₹25 crore. This includes the purchase of other essential modern equipment to enhance road safety. The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department and Traffic Directorate are paying special attention to the use of modern technology in road safety and the state-of-the-art traffic management. Which will not only bring about a significant reduction in road accident cases in the state but will also provide safe transportation facilities to the people.
