Lucknow, January 11: The UPCOP app and the citizen portal of the state government’s UP Police are now functioning as a “digital police station” for the people of the state. Through the app, people are not only filing FIRs from home but are also availing of 27 types of police services sans visiting the police station.

The Yogi government has taken several steps towards smart policing in the last nine and a quarter years. This government initiative has become a source of great relief and trust for both the police and the common man.

The Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna said on Sunday that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has integrated technology into policing to make it people-centric, transparent, and accountable. His visionary thinking is the reason why the UP Police is setting a new example in serving the common man through technology. The UPCop app has significantly reduced the need to visit police stations. The app has also significantly reduced the time taken to process various services.

He explained that through the app, people are availing 27 services, including online registration of FIRs, downloading copies of FIRs, filing lost property reports, character verification, tenant verification, domestic help verification, and employee verification. More than 5 million users have downloaded the app so far.

The DGP apprised that over 21 million FIRs have been downloaded through the app, and over 7.3 lakh people have filed lost property reports. These figures demonstrate the importance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision of digital policing.

The DGP explained that several modern features have been added to the UPCop app. Applicants receive instant updates on the status of their applications through real-time notifications. The app is available in both Hindi and English, making it easy for people from all walks of life to use. Furthermore, for security purposes, features like location tracking and an SOS button have also been upgraded. Additionally, the app also features a map view of the nearest police station, proving extremely useful in emergencies. The app has significantly reduced the time required for various services.

Rajiv Krishna further explained that character verification currently takes approximately six days, compared to eight previously. Similarly, tenant verification is taking approximately eight days, compared to 24 to 25 days previously. Employee verification is taking approximately five days, compared to 13 days previously. Additionally, the Yogi government’s Public Grievance Review Portal has emerged as an effective medium for the public. Through the portal, citizens are registering their complaints, which are regularly reviewed and resolved in a timely manner. This has increased police accountability and given complainants the confidence that their concerns are being heard.

The DGP stated that the UPCOP app is the Uttar Pradesh Police’s “digital police station,” providing quick, transparent, and timely redressal of citizen complaints and services. Through technology, we are standardizing service processes to ensure uniform speed, transparency, and a timely response to every application. Technology-based public grievance redressal is making policing more people-centric and accountable. This is the true meaning of smart policing.
