UP govt declares public holiday on Valmiki Jayanti ( Oct 7)

Lucknow, October 4: The Uttar Pradesh government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday, October 7, on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti or ‘Pargat Diwas’. All schools, colleges, and government offices will remain closed on this day. The government issued an order in this regard today.

The order states that October 7 (Tuesday) has been declared a public holiday on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. All government and private schools, colleges, banks, and government offices will remain closed across the state.

It is noteworthy that the members of the Bhartiya Valmiki Dharam Samaj have been demanding a public holiday from the government on Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. They had submitted memorandums to the government several times demanding a public holiday.

The Valmiki Samaj said that earlier this day used to be a public holiday, but later it was cancelled.
