Lucknow, September 30: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) conducted raids in several districts, including the state capital Lucknow, on Monday night, taking action against radical activities in the country. During this, four radicals were arrested from different districts.
ATS IG PK Gautam told reporters on Tuesday that Akmal Raza from Sultanpur, Safeel Salmani from Sonbhadra, Tausif from Ghatampur in Kanpur, and Qasim from Sarai Karim in Rampur were arrested. All four were in contact with an organization involved in radical and jihadi activities in Pakistan.
The IG ATS said that during initial interrogation, it was revealed from the four radicals that they were planning to wage jihad and launch a campaign to implement Sharia law. For this, they were associating with people with similar radical ideologies. To carry out these activities, they were compiling, writing, and disseminating various violent Jihadi literature.
The arrested accused will be presented before the court and further legal proceedings will be initiated. A request will be made to the court for police custody remand of the accused to obtain detailed information about their other associates and helpers.
