Union Home Secretary gets service extension till Aug 22, 2026

New Delhi, July 11: The tenure of Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has been extended till August 22, 2026. 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Govind Mohan was due to retire on September 30.

A government order (GO) said on Friday that the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of the services of 1989 batch Sikkim cadre IAS officer Govind Mohan as Home Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs beyond his retirement date of September 30, 2025 to August 22, 2026 or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

It is noteworthy that Govind Mohan took charge as Home Secretary on 23 August 2024, after which his tenure is now being extended by more than one year. Prior to this, he was the Secretary in the Ministry of Culture and has also worked as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
