Shia Muslims stage protest across Uttar Pradesh after Khamenei’s death, Lucknow among key flashpoints

Lucknow, March 01: The Members of the Shia community staged protests across several districts, including the Lucknow following the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Israel – US airstrike.

A large number of people, including women seen crying and mourning, took out a protest march from the Chhota Imambara, holding posters in their hands. The protesters raised slogans of Khamenei Zindabad and America-Israel Murdabad. Following this protest, security arrangements have been beefed up across Uttar Pradesh.

Protests have erupted in Uttar Pradesh after the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in Israeli arrack. Thousands of people from the Shia community took to the streets in the state capital Lucknow. Women were seen weeping and mourning. A large number of people marched from the Chota Imambara, carrying posters in their hands.

Maulana Saif Abbas, President of the Shia Chand Committee of Lucknow, said that the entire world should unite and protest against the terrorist act committed by America and Israel. Following Khamenei’s death, all countries should lower their national flags in respect. Members of the Shia community will observe three days of mourning by keeping their establishments closed.

The All India Shia Personal Law Board has also announced a three-day mourning period. Following the announcement by the Board’s General Secretary, Maulana Yasoob Abbas, the Bada and Chota Imambaras have been closed to tourists for the next three days.

Maulana Kalbe Jawad announced that a condolence meeting will be held at the Chota Imambara at 8 pm on Sunday to commemorate Khamenei’s death. He has appealed for a large gathering. In addition, protests are taking place in several districts, including Bareilly, Jaunpur, and Sambhal.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razavi Barelvi, National President of the All India Muslim Jamaat in Bareilly, stated that the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is a sad moment for the entire Islamic community.

He appealed for peaceful protests and ensured that no one involved in the processions took the law into their own hands.

In view of the protests taking place in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, the police department is on full alert. The Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna has instructed all district police chiefs and police commissioners to ensure that law and order in the state is not disturbed under any circumstances. Security arrangements should be increased in sensitive and highly sensitive areas. To implement this, police and security agencies have increased surveillance in various districts of the state, including Lucknow.
