New Delhi, July 21: The Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday expressed his concern about two serious issues in the Upper House. The first matter is related to the proposal to remove a High Court judge, while the second issue is related to the finding of a bundle of 500 rupee notes on a Rajya Sabha seat. The

Chairman informed the House that in December, a proposal was presented before him by 55 members to remove a High Court judge from his post under Article 124 of the Constitution, but on investigation it was found that a member’s signature is in two places. When that member was asked about this, he denied the second signature.

Dhankhar said, “If a proposal is presented with two signatures of the same member and the member says that he has signed only once, then this matter becomes serious and punishable.”

The Chairman informed that the verification and authentication process of signatures has been started to know the truth of this matter, which is currently in progress. If 50 or more members confirm their signatures, then the proposal will be considered. At the same time, the double signature discrepancy will be looked into seriously separately.

Making another shocking disclosure, the Chairman said that a bundle of 500 rupee notes was found at Rajya Sabha seat number 222.

He said, “The matter of concern is not that the notes were found, but that no one has claimed this money till now.”

Describing this incident as serious, he said that it will now be looked into more deeply and this matter will also be placed before the floor leaders of the House for consideration.

Dhankhar urged the members that this House should live up to the highest expectations of the public. He said, “If we ignore these incidents and do not investigate deeply, it will be against the dignity of the House.”

The Chairman indicated that appropriate action will be taken on both these matters after consultation with the floor leaders of the House.
