Bareilly, January 28: The Bareilly district administration took two important decisions on Wednesday in the case of the Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officer Alankar Agnihotri, who was suspended after resigning from the post of City Magistrate of Bareilly district in Uttar Pradesh. On one hand, a notice was pasted at his official residence this morning, and on the other hand, to maintain continuity of administrative work, additional sub-divisional magistrate (ASDM) Sadar Ramjanam Yadav was given the additional charge of city magistrate, Bareilly.
The District Magistrate (DM) Avinash Singh issued an order today, assigning ASDM Sadar Ramjanam Yadav the additional charge of City Magistrate, Bareilly.
District Magistrate Avinash Singh stated that this decision was taken in the interest of government work. The order clarifies that no separate allowance will be payable for the additional charge. According to administrative sources, this arrangement has been implemented until further orders to avoid any vacuum in the city administration.
On Wednesday, the third day since his resignation and suspension, Alankar Agnihotri remained at his official residence. His supporters had been camped out around Damodar Park and the City Magistrate’s residence since Tuesday night. Supporters feared he might be taken to a secret location, but the administration took no such action. As a precaution, a heavy police presence was deployed throughout the area. Meanwhile, ADM City Saurabh Dubey also arrived at the gate of the City Magistrate’s residence and took stock of the situation.
Alankar Agnihotri , a 2019-batch PCS officer, announced his resignation on Monday after the Republic Day flag-hoisting ceremony at the Collectorate premises. He subsequently leveled serious allegations against the central and state governments regarding issues related to the UGC Act and the Shankaracharya.
Late in the evening, he visited the District Magistrate at his residence to meet him. After emerging, he alleged that he was held hostage for 45 minutes in the DM’s residence, a claim strongly denied by District Magistrate Avinash Singh. He was suspended that same night and transferred to the Shamli Collectorate. The investigation into the matter has been assigned to the Commissioner, Bareilly.
