Varanasi, December 26: The Dhobi or Rajaka (washermen) community in Varanasi has requested space for drying clothes from the Varanasi Municipal Corporation.
They also stated that local residents object to drying clothes in public places.
Rambabu of the Dhobi community stated today that currently, drying is only available at the washing grounds or ghats. During foggy weather, clothes cannot be dried on the ghats. Therefore, the Dhobi community has placed their demand before the committee, which has been conveyed to the Municipal Corporation officials.
He explained that they also wash clothes for hotels in Varanasi. Heavy clothes take time to dry after washing. They are demanding that a space be provided in Varanasi exclusively for drying clothes.
