Lucknow, July 14: The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has got bail from the MP-MLA court of Lucknow. He appeared on Tuesday on the court’s order regarding the remarks made on the Indian Army.
After Rahul Gandhi’s surrender, a petition for bail was filed by his advocate. The court has granted bail to Rahul Gandhi on two bonds of Rs 20,000 each.
Advocate and Congress spokesperson Pradeep Singh said that a complaint was filed against Rahul Gandhi on behalf of retired Brigadier and former Director of Border Roads Organization (BRO) Uday Shankar Srivastava.
In the complaint, Srivastava had alleged that Rahul Gandhi had made an alleged objectionable remark about the Indian Army during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022. He had said that the Chinese army is beating our soldiers, but no one is asking about it. The former director believed that Rahul’s statement hurt the sentiments of the soldiers and their families.
On the complaint, the special MP-MLA court had summoned Rahul Gandhi on charges of defamation after hearing on February 11, 2025. Rahul Gandhi also approached the Allahabad High Court demanding the cancellation of the petition filed in the court, but he did not get any relief there. After this Rahul appeared in the Lucknow court.
Actually, Rahul Gandhi was not appearing in the MP-MLA court of Lucknow for the last five dates. The court expressed displeasure over this and issued summons to him. Rahul’s lawyer had also sought exemption from Tuesday’s appearance, but the court showed strictness and ordered Rahul to appear personally. Rahul appeared in the court of Special Judge Alok Verma, now he has got bail in this case.
