Lucknow, May 2: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has stressed on the need to give top priority to the inclusion of innovations and practical training in technical and vocational education.
He said that in the last eight years, many concrete initiatives have been taken by the state government to make technical education more accessible, quality-oriented, innovative and result-oriented, whose encouraging results are being reflected.
Chief Minister Yogi said that for quality education, all technical institutes should participate in NAAC, NBA and NIRF evaluation, but comprehensive preparation must be ensured before applying.
Chief Minister praised the ranking of government and aided polytechnic institutes under the State Institutional Ranking Framework (SIRF) and directed to include private institutes under it as well, so that the same standards of quality can be ensured in all the institutes.
Chief Minister was chairing a review meeting of the Technical and Vocational Education departments on Friday. Technical Education Minister Ashish Patel and Vocational Education Minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal were also present in the meeting.
Chief Minister directed to further strengthen practical studies in universities and engineering colleges. Emphasis was laid on ensuring the availability of quality laboratories. He also directed to complete the appointment process on all the vacant posts of academic and non-academic category soon.
Chief Minister directed that all the projects related to building construction and campus development of the newly established Government Engineering Colleges of Basti, Gonda, Mirzapur and Pratapgarh should be completed within the stipulated time frame, so that these colleges can be operated from their private campuses from the next academic session.
He said that while starting new courses in any institute, priority should be given to local industrial needs and possibilities.
During the review of diploma courses of technical education in the meeting, the Chief Minister was informed that at present a total of 2139 polytechnic institutes are operating in the state, which include 147 government, 18 PPP mode, 19 aided and 1948 private institutes. These institutes have an admission capacity of more than 2.68 lakh, in which more than 1.15 lakh students are studying. The department has incorporated digital classes, Aadhaar-based biometric attendance, industry-linked courses, and frontier technologies such as drone technology, cyber security, data science and machine learning in the courses. Since 2017, 39 new government polytechnics have been established in the state and more than 13,000 teachers and officers have been trained.
Chief Minister was informed by the Department of Vocational Education and Skill Development that at present 324 government and 2982 private ITIs are operating in the state. With the cooperation of Tata Technology Limited, 212 government ITIs have been upgraded by equipping them with modern laboratories and skilled trainers. Along with long-term trades, short-term skill training programs are also being conducted in these institutes. In the year 2024-25, about 1.25 lakh trainees have got apprenticeship and employment opportunities. More than 30,000 students have applied so far under the Pradhan Mantri Internship Scheme. It was also informed that modern skill laboratories have been set up by reputed industrial units in more than 37 districts of the state through CSR fund. Also, organizing monthly placement day has been successful in providing employment to the youth at the local level. More than 2.67 lakh apprentices have been appointed in the last five years.
Chief Minister directed that technical and vocational education should be linked more deeply with the industries and every student should be ensured a fixed duration industrial internship along with training. He said that it is the priority of the government to make the youth power of the state technically strong and self-reliant. Education should not be just a means of obtaining certificates but should be a practical, skillful and useful system.
Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that Uttar Pradesh is moving ahead with a visionary and strong policy in the field of technical education. He directed the officials to ensure effective implementation of all the schemes and programmes and to provide opportunities to every youth as per his skills, so that the vision of ‘Self-reliant India’ can be realised.
