Prayagraj police nabs five after encounter, recovers illegal weapons and vehicles

Prayagraj, March 03: The Prayagraj police arrested five accused after an encounter during vehicle checking in Manda area, recovering illegal pistols, cartridges, motorcycles, and mobile phones, police informed.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav apprised that during patrol in Manda, Prayagraj, police chased suspects fleeing on motorcycles from Lalganj; the accused opened fire, prompting police to act in self-defense and arrest five with weapons and vehicles recovered.

The arrested accused include Shubham Singh, a resident of Dighiya village in the Manda police station area, Saurabh Mishra, a resident of Chadaicha village in the Jigna police station area of โ€‹โ€‹Mirzapur district, his neighbor Gaurav Mishra, Happy alias Ved Prakash, a resident of Hargarh village in the Jigna police station area, and Chaman, a resident of Chitauli village in Mirzapur. During interrogation, the accused confessed to committing snatching and robbery incidents in the Bhadohi, Mirzapur, and Prayagraj areas. They stated that they would steal goods from goldsmiths and shopkeepers, show fake mobile payment forms, and flee. In view of the Holi festival, they were looking for new prey as they needed money.

A case has been registered at the Manda police station under sections 109(1)/3(5) of the IPC and 3/25 of the Arms Act and legal action is underway.

Yamunanagar Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Chandra Yadav stated that the criminals who opened fire on the police team have been arrested in a courageous action. The campaign to curb criminal activities in the area will continue, and strict action will be taken against offenders.
