South cinema’s ‘darling’ and global star Prabhas’ much-awaited film ‘The Raja Saab’ made a strong start at the box office upon its release, but the second day’s figures have surprised everyone. This horror-comedy, which had a record opening of more than Rs 100 crore worldwide on its first day, was expected to make a big jump over the weekend, but on Saturday the film’s earnings registered a huge drop.
The impact of Prabhas’ star power was clearly visible on the day of release. Huge crowds of fans gathered outside the theatres and the film had a strong opening of around Rs 53 crore in India.
However, according to a report by Sachnilk, the film’s earnings dropped to Rs 27 crore on Saturday. This brings the total collection of “The Raja Saab” in India to โน90.75 crore in two days. A drop of approximately 48 percent on the second day has certainly increased the makers’ concerns.
The opening weekend is considered crucial for this film, made on a massive budget of approximately โน400 crore. After a strong opening day, the decline on the second day clearly indicates that the film will have a long way to go.
Directed by Maruthi, “The Raja Saab” stars Prabhas as a man who inherits a mysterious ancestral mansion. Sanjay Dutt plays the villain, while Malavika Mohanan and Nidhi Agarwal play pivotal roles. Interestingly, the makers also announced a sequel, “The Raja Saab: Circus 1935,” at the end of the film.
“Dhurandhar” continues to dominate
Meanwhile, “Dhurandhar” continues to hold strong at the box office. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film is performing exceptionally well even on its 37th day of release. On its sixth Saturday, the film grossed โน5.75 crore, taking its total collection to โน799.50 crore. Now, ‘Dhurandhar’ is just one step away from entering the โน800 crore club and is poised to create history on its sixth Sunday.
