Sambhal, January 5: The district magistrate (DM) and the superintendent of police (SP) in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh unearthed power theft in a mosque.
Following complaints of low revenue collections and power theft, the DM and the SP raided Muslim-dominated areas in the Sadar tehsil area at night. A mini power station was found here, supplying electricity to 50-60 homes.

A major revelation has emerged in the drive against power theft in Sambhal. Under the direction of District Magistrate Dr Rajendra Pensia, seven teams launched a special campaign to curb power theft in the Raisatti police station area. During this operation, significant amounts of power theft were detected, costing the department lakhs of rupees. In some areas, 50-60 homes were being supplied with electricity from a single source. Investigation revealed that a person had illegally installed a mini power station. The entire system was underground, making it extremely difficult to detect. An FIR had already been filed against the individual in this case.
District Magistrate Rajendra Pansiya stated that based on the equipment seized and the amount of theft, a heavy fine would be imposed on the individual. Further legal action would include filing another FIR. The
DM also stated that electricity theft was also detected in the Mustafa Mosque complex during the search operation.
