PM Modi leaves for Japan and China tour, to participate in summit talks

New Delhi, 28 August: Prime Minister Narendra Modi left late Thursday night on a two-day visit to Japan and China. He will participate in the 15th Annual Summit and Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Tokyo.

Prime Minister Modi said in a statement issued before departure that his visit will help in strengthening India’s national interests and furthering meaningful cooperation in the direction of regional and global peace, security and sustainable development.

He said that on the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, he will participate in the 15th Annual Summit in Tokyo. During this, both the countries will focus on shaping the next phase of the special strategic and global partnership.

Prime Minister said that in the last 11 years, this partnership has made continuous and significant progress. Now efforts will be made to give new heights to economic and investment relations and to increase cooperation in new and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and semiconductors. Along with this, there will be an opportunity to further strengthen the civilizational and cultural relations between India and Japan.

After the Japan visit, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin, China. He will attend this summit on the invitation of President Xi Jinping. He said that India is an active and constructive member of the SCO and during its presidency, it has initiated new ideas and cooperation in areas like innovation, health and cultural exchange.

Modi said that during the summit, he will also have bilateral meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders of other countries.

The Prime Minister expressed confidence that his visit to Japan and China will strengthen India’s interests as well as deepen regional cooperation.
