New Delhi, March 13: Amidst rising tensions and deteriorating conditions in West Asia, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday via phone to review the current situation in the region. During the conversation, the two leaders discussed regional security, the escalating conflict, and its potential global implications.
Sharing information on the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Modi stated that India expresses deep concern over the increasing violence, civilian casualties, and damage to infrastructure in West Asia. He stated that the safety of Indian citizens living abroad is the government’s top priority in the current circumstances.
During the conversation, PM Modi also underscored the importance of the uninterrupted movement of goods and energy for India.
He stated that any disruption to energy supplies or trade routes would impact not only India’s economy but also the stability of the entire region.
The Prime Minister appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and stated that a solution to the current crisis is possible only through dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasized the need to de-escalate tensions and pursue constructive dialogue to prevent further escalation.
India and Iran have long-standing deep cultural, historical, and economic ties. Energy cooperation has been an important pillar of the two countries’ relationship. Furthermore, the Chabahar Port project is considered a key strategic route for India’s trade and connectivity with Central Asia and Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Modi’s talks come at a time when rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia have raised new concerns about the security of the global energy market, trade routes, and diaspora communities. India is striving to achieve both its national interests and regional peace through balanced diplomacy.
