Saharanpur, October 6: A notorious criminal, Imran, killed in the Saharanpur police encounter on Sunday night when the police received an information in the Gagalheri police station area that a criminal was fleeing after snatching a motorcycle, police said.
As per the police, upon receiving the information, the police chased the criminal to apprehend him. Meanwhile, seeing the police approaching near, the criminal opened fire at the police, and was killed in the retaliatory fire. The inspector and the sub-inspector were also injured in the firing.
A criminal was identified as Imran, a resident of Shamli, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh. He was involved in incidents of robbery and dacoity in several districts of West Uttar Pradesh, including Saharanpur, Meerut, Shamli, and Muzaffarnagar.
As per the police records, Imran had over 13 cases of robbery and dacoity registered against him in Saharanpur, Meerut, Shamli, and Muzaffarnagar.
SSP Ashish Tiwari stated that Gagalheri Inspector Parvesh Sharma was shot in the left hand during the encounter, also Sarsawa Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar was hit by a bullet through his bulletproof jacket, narrowly avoiding his death. The inspector and sub-inspector are receiving treatment in the hospital. Both are out of danger. Police recovered two .32-bore pistols, 18 empty shells, and 10 cartridges from Imran. A motorcycle stolen from the Gagalheri police station area was also recovered.
