Moradabad robbery accused arrested in encounter

Moradabad, October 10: The Moradabad police has arrested a robber in an encounter near Sonakpur Bridge late Thursday night.

The accused was absconding in connection with the robbery of earrings from a woman in the Majhola police station area three days ago on October 6. He was injured by a police bullet and has been admitted to the district hospital.

Superintendent of Police (City) Kumar Ranvijay Singh informed on Friday that the earrings were robbed from Premvati, a resident of Mansarovar Colony, at Prakash Nagar intersection in Majhola area at around 1pm on Monday. The same night, police arrested the accused, Hamid, a resident of Kohinoor Tiraha Karula in Katghar, in an encounter near Herbal Park. The accused was shot in the leg, but taking advantage of the darkness, his accomplice, Rafi, a resident of Sambhal, and another accomplice, Arjun, escaped from the scene.

SP City stated that at 2 a.m. Thursday, Majhola Police Station SHO Ravindra Kumar was on patrol with a police team. During this time, a suspicious young man was seen approaching on a motorcycle. When the police signaled him to stop, he opened fire. In retaliatory action, the accused was shot in the leg and fell down, where he was arrested.

The SP city apprised that an arrested accused was identified as Mohammad Rafi, a resident of Sambhal. Last Monday, he and his accomplices had stolen a woman’s earring in the Majhola Police Station area. The third accused, Arjun, is still at large and is being sought.
