Man held for harassing a woman in 24 hrs in Lucknow

Lucknow, November 29: The Lucknow commissionerate police has arrested a man accused of physically exploiting a young woman under false pretenses of marriage. Now, he is refusing to marry her. The victim filed a case in this matter on November 28, police said.

The Station House Officer (SHO) Anjani Kumar Singh said on Saturday that the arrested accused is Rohit Gupta, a resident of Sandhana village in Sitapur district. A young woman filed a complaint against him, alleging that Rohit had physical relations with her under false pretenses of marriage and later refused to marry her. During this time, he took private videos and photos of her and was mentally harassing her by threatening to make them viral. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case.

Considering the incident serious, the Madayaganj station house officer immediately formed a team. With the help of the surveillance cell, the accused’s mobile location was traced, which was found in the Sandhana area of ​​Sitapur. The team raided the house with adequate force and arrested the accused, Rohit Gupta, from his home late Friday night.

The station in-charge stated that the accused is being sent to judicial custody after the necessary legal proceedings. His criminal history is being investigated by other police stations and districts.
