Lucknow, June 12: After the permission of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) Vice President Prathamesh Kumar, preparations have been made to give Butler Palace to private hands. LDA, responsible for the maintenance of Butler Palace, has issued an e-tender on the website to give it to private hands.
In the tender issued by LDA, commercial activities can also be run in Butler Palace. A lump sum payment will have to be made for this. The firm which takes Butler Palace under the tender will also have to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of the palace.
Lucknow Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob had inspected Butler Palace a few days ago and had talked about making it a tourist destination through the tourism department. At present, LDA has worked to prepare Butler Palace as a living monument of permanent attraction and cultural prosperity and now has started the tender process to give it to private hands.
Raja Mahmudabad had laid the foundation of Butler Palace.
If we look at the history of Butler Palace, its foundation stone was laid by Raja Mahmudabad in 1915. It was built for Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler, Deputy Commissioner of Awadh. This palace served as the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner. It was a lively establishment at one time. Butler Palace continued to be used for a few years after independence. After this, this palace started being recognized as a heritage.
