Lucknow, May 25: The officials of Namami Gange of the Central Government have held several meetings regarding the degraded condition of rivers across Uttar Pradesh. After this, the garbage falling in Varanasi’s Varuna river has been improved to a great extent. Saryu river in Ayodhya has also got a new lease of life but the condition of Gomti river in Lucknow is in the distress, some social outfits run cleanliness drive occasionally, but no concrete change is visible.
The bad condition of Gomti river was seen in front of Kudia Ghat near Bada Imambara on Sunday. This ghat was prepared for tourism in Gomti river. Due to water hyacinth floating on the river water, there are a lot of problems in operating the boat. Boat rides are of great importance for the people coming for tourism. Still, boat operation is not possible due to the high amount of water hyacinth in the Gomti river.
Boat operator Bade Tiwari said that hundreds of people come to Kudia Ghat every day for sightseeing. People get employment from boat operation in the river and running tea and Maggi shops on the river bank. Dirty water from the drain is falling into the Gomti river, due to which the water has become contaminated. The water here is not fit for drinking. Water hyacinth is floating. Due to which there are problems in operating the boats. Small events are held on the river bank, while films are also shot in the park built on the ghat.
He said that due to the strictness of the Municipal Corporation officials, the park and its surroundings are swept in the morning. Still, no concrete effort has been made to clean the river water. Some people come to change the picture, do a little cleaning and go away after taking photos. After a few days, the condition of the Gomti river remains the same.
State government is alert about the cleanliness of rivers
Uttar Pradesh’s Jalshakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh participated in the Maa Mandakini Swachhata Program organized by Pandit Deendayal Shodh Sansthan in Chitrakoot on Sunday. On this occasion, the minister entered the river and took out the garbage.
Jalshakti Minister said that the state government is alert about the cleanliness of rivers. The rivers will not be allowed to get polluted under any circumstances. The river water will be clean, we will be able to drink it. For this, the state government is working to implement the schemes of the central government on the ground.
