New Delhi, May 05: The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of thunderstorm, rain, hailstorm and lightning in many parts of the country including the national capital Delhi-NCR till May 08.
Meteorologist Dr Sanjeev Dwivedi said that there may be heavy rain in Odisha today. Its warning has already been issued.
He said that Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak and Gajapati districts of Odisha are included in the scope of this warning. Hailstorm may also occur during this period. Similar weather may prevail tomorrow as well. Light rain is forecast on May 07-08.
The India Meteorological Department said that the current activities of thunderstorm and rain in Odisha, coastal areas of the Ganges in West Bengal as well as in the east-central and eastern parts of the country may decrease somewhat after May 7. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rains and hailstorms have occurred in many places in the last 24 hours amid an orange alert. An elderly man was swept away in a drain due to cloudburst in Dondra Nala of Cheli village in Chamba district on Saturday night. His body has been recovered. During the 24 hours till 8:30 am on Sunday, winds blew at a speed of 70-100 kmph at some places in eastern Rajasthan, central India, Odisha and Jharkhand and dust storms occurred at some places. Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, eastern Uttar Pradesh, western Rajasthan also witnessed winds at a speed of 40-70 kmph.
According to the met predictions, thunderstorms were observed at isolated places in the Gangetic plains of West Bengal, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, north interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Hailstorms occurred at some places in Uttarakhand, western Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh. Heavy rainfall occurred in many places in Odisha and Meghalaya. Due to this, a drop in temperature was recorded.
According to meteorologists, a western disturbance is present in northern Pakistan and adjoining Punjab and north-west Rajasthan. Due to its effect, moderate rain with strong winds may occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh till May 10. During this time, there is a possibility of sporadic rain in Rajasthan as well.
In Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla, there was heavy rain and hail storm with thunder in the afternoon. There has been snowfall on the peaks in Lahaul and rain in many areas. The Uttarakhand Disaster Management Authority has sent a letter to all the District Magistrates asking them to be alert in view of the bad weather. In view of the safety of the students, caution has been advised in schools. Also, it has been warned not to allow the movement of tourists in the high Himalayan areas.
