Rampur, 21 August: The Rampur police of Uttar Pradesh arrested the Imam of Zeenat Mosque on Thursday. A post on social media of the arrested Imam had revealed his religious conversion, spreading obscenity, Islamic books and guns etc.
SP Rampur took immediate cognizance of the viral video and registered a case and deployed police teams to arrest the Imam. Civil Lines police station arrested him and recovered obscene objects along with many illegal weapons.
In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Atul Kumar Srivastava said that on Wednesday, August 20 , a victim girl had made a video of a room of the former Imam of the mosque, Raees Ahmed, viral on social media, in which the Imam was seen with a woman with illegal weapons and obscene material. In this regard, the Civil Line Police Station had registered a case under the Prohibition of Religious Conversion Act, Section 66 IT Act and spreading obscenity. In the case, the Civil Line Police Station in-charge today arrested the accused Imam Raheem Ahmed, a resident of village Parchai Kumhariya under Azim Nagar police station.
The ASP said that the police have recovered 2 pistols of 12 bore, 4 live cartridges and a mobile phone from the possession of the arrested Imam. The recovered weapon and mobile are being investigated.
He said that the police is taking further action against the Imam by presenting him in the court.
It is noteworthy that earlier in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, Changur alias Jalaluddin was arrested in the case of forced conversion of a girl. In the investigation of Changur, the police has revealed an international network of illegal conversions along with foreign funding and illegal property worth more than Rs 100 crore. At present, Changur is in jail. Now Imam Raheem has been arrested in Rampur district. There is a possibility of many revelations like religious conversion and Islamic conversion in his investigation.
