Sultanpur, November 1: Ahead of the verdict of the robbery case at the LIC office in Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, the accused history-sheeter committed suicide by shooting himself on Saturday. After the charges were framed, the court was to pronounce its verdict on November 5.
Baldirai Circle Officer Ashutosh Kumar said that history-sheeter Durgesh Singh alias Monu (38), a resident of Galibaha village in Kurebhar police station area, shot himself in the chest with an illegal weapon in his room. Police reached the spot after breaking the door, took out the body and sent it for post-mortem. During the investigation, the police recovered a pistol near the mutilated body.
The CO said that Durgesh Singh was a history-sheeter of Kurebhar police station. He shot himself in the chest.
It is worth noting that on September 1, 2008, a daylight robbery took place at the LIC branch in Kadipur. Armed criminals held a revolver to the temple of security guard Satya Prakash Tiwari, who was standing at the branch gate, snatched his gun, and entered the branch. The criminals fled with a total of โน13.15 lakh (131.5 million rupees) from the branch.
The then branch manager, Ishwar Dev Singh, filed an FIR in this regard. The court hearing was ongoing. Durgesh was the accused in this case. He was living abroad. After charges were framed on October 29, the court was scheduled to deliver its verdict on November 5. Durgesh had come home in connection with this case.
It is widely believed that he committed suicide out of fear of punishment. The body is currently being sent for post-mortem examination.
