Sultanpur, November 6: The hearing of the defamation case against Congress MP from Rae Bareli and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi was postponed on Thursday in the MP-MLA court of Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The next hearing of this case will be held on November 17.
Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Kashi Prasad Shukla said that due to the death of an advocate, the court was declared mourning holiday today. Therefore, the hearing of this case will now be held on November 17.
It is noteworthy that the BJP leader Vijay Mishra, resident of Hanumanganj of Kotwali Dehat, had filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi in 2018.
Vijay Mishra alleged that during the Karnataka elections in 2018, Rahul Gandhi had made indecent remarks against the then BJP President and current Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In December 2023, after Rahul Gandhi failed to appear in court, the then judge issued a warrant against him.
Subsequently, in February 2024, Rahul Gandhi surrendered to the court. The special magistrate granted him bail on two sureties of 25,000 rupees each. On July 26, 2024, Rahul Gandhi filed a statement in court, declaring his innocence and calling the case a political conspiracy. Following this, the court directed the plaintiff to present evidence. Since then, witnesses have been continuously presented. So far, only one witness has been cross-examined, while the second has begun.
