Floodwaters of river Ganga receding in Varanasi, Ghazipur: Central Water Commission

Varanasi, August 31: Flood like situation had arisen due to the rising water level of the river Ganga after heavy rainfall in Varanasi, Ghazipur, Prayagraj, Mirzapur and Ballia. According to the data released by Central Water Commission on Sunday, the water level of the river Ganga is receding gradually in the last nine hours. The scene of devastation caused by Ganga river flowing above the danger mark in Ballia and Ghazipur is now expected to reduce.

The water level of Ganga river in Varanasi is .70 meters below the danger mark and is decreasing slowly. The boatmen living on the banks of the ghat are the happiest after the fall in the water level of the river. At the same time, there is still disappointment among the tourists visiting Namo Ghat, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Panchganga Ghat, Mahal Ghat etc.

In Ghazipur, the water level of Ganga is only .44 meters below the danger mark. In Ballia, the Ganga is still 1.7 meters above the danger mark, but the water level has started subsiding there too. The district administration teams engaged in flood relief in Ghazipur and Ballia have heaved a sigh of relief.
