Prayagraj, January 30: The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a petition seeking quashing of Gangster Act proceedings against Irfan Solanki, former SP MLA from Sisamau constituency in Kanpur.
Justice Samit Gopal issued the order. The court reserved its decision on January 12 after the arguments concluded. Kanpur resident Irfan Solanki faces several charges, including land grabbing.
A Gangster Act case was filed against him at the Jajmau police station in December 2022. Irfan Solanki had filed the petition seeking quashing of the entire proceedings, including the summons issued by the trial court. Irfan’s senior lawyer, Imran Ullah, argued that the petitioner is innocent and has been framed due to political rivalry. The provisions of the Gangster Act were not followed in the proceedings.
On the other hand, Additional Advocate General Manish Goyal and Additional Government Advocate Rupak Choubey argued that the petitioner has a long criminal history and is a member of an organized gang. The provisions of the Gangsters Act have been fully followed in the prosecution.
The trial has already begun, and a witness’s statement has been recorded. Interference at this stage is not justified. The court dismissed the petition, considering the gravity of the crime and the status of the trial.
