Death toll in Sambhal road accident rises to eight

Sambhal, 05 July: A car collided with the wall of a school during a wedding procession in Hargovindpur village of the district on Friday late evening. Five people, including the groom, died in the accident, while the condition of many people admitted in the hospital remained critical. Three other people have died during treatment. The death toll has now risen to 8, police said.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishan Kumar apprised that Sukhram’s son Suraj (19), who lives in village Hargovindpur of police station Junawai area, was getting married on Friday. Late in the evening, the wedding procession left for Sirsaul village in Badaun district. Suraj’s sister-in-law Asha (26), niece (Aishwarya), Vishnu (02) and other people were in the car. After overtaking several vehicles, Suraj’s car started, in which 10 people including the groom were sitting. The groom’s high speed car collided with the wall of Janta Inter College, a little distance away from the village. The collision was so strong that the car was completely damaged and 5 people including the groom sitting in it died on the spot. On getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and while doing rescue work, took 5 other injured to the hospital.

SP further told that seeing the critical condition of some of them, they were referred to Aligarh. The police took the help of a crane to take out the injured. Meanwhile, on getting information, administrative officials including Superintendent of Police, Tehsildar, CO and CMO reached the spot. The incident was investigated.

The SP said that the cause of the accident was the driver losing control over the car. 5 people including the groom died on the spot. The three people who died in the hospital have been identified as the groom’s sister Madhu, driver Ravi and villager Sachin. Those who are injured are being provided better treatment.
