CM Yogi directs all departments to expedite budget expenditures

Lucknow, January 02: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a review meeting with the Finance Department on Friday morning regarding the expenditures of the budgets allocated to various departments by the government for the financial year 2025-26. Presentations were made by 20 key departments with high budgetary allocations, including the half-term progress of government approvals, allocations by department heads, and expenditures, relative to the budgetary allocations for the current financial year.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed the presentations of the 20 key departments. During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed senior officials of all key departments to ensure timely use of the allocated budgets so that projects and schemes can be completed on time and the people of the state can benefit from these schemes.

Chief Minister urged officials to develop decision-making capabilities to ensure timely budget expenditures. He urged departments experiencing slow budget expenditures to expedite progress. Furthermore, to ensure timely budget expenditure, each officer at every level should be assigned responsibility and accountability. Negligence will not be tolerated.

Chief Minister urged all departmental officials to make prompt decisions to implement schemes. He emphasized that delays in decision-making hinder timely budget expenditures. Therefore, expedite decision-making.

The Chief Minister also noted that budget expenditure progress is slow in some departments. To expedite this process, departmental ministers and officials should coordinate and hold monthly meetings.

The Chief Minister also directed the Finance Department to immediately allocate budgets to departments whose allocated budgets have not yet been released for various reasons.

He directed officials from all 20 major departments to ensure that the departments receive budgets from the Central Government for various schemes. To achieve this, the departmental ministers, Additional Chief Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries should visit Delhi to lobby the Central Government for budget release. Additionally, write letters to the central government and follow up by phone. The Chief Secretary should also take innovative action in this regard.

The Chief Minister directed his office to identify departments with slow budget expenditure progress and issue letters to their respective ministers on behalf of the Chief Minister’s Office.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Yogi directed the Finance Department to meet with all departments to review budget demands for the upcoming financial year 2026-27.

He also directed that before allocating the upcoming budget to departments, their expenditure estimates for the past five years should be reviewed. He directed that the Finance Department begin preparing for the new action plan immediately.

He also directed that better coordination be established with the central government regarding the upcoming budget allocations so that the budget can be received on time.
