Budget reflects the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians: PM Modi

New Delhi, February 01: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while reacting to the Union Budget 2026-27, described it as historic and said that this budget reflects the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians and presents a clear roadmap for a developed India.

Responding to the budget via video conferencing, the Prime Minister said that this budget realizes the dreams of the present and lays a strong foundation for India’s bright future. He described Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the budget for the ninth consecutive time as a powerful example of women’s empowerment. He said that this budget is a highway of immense opportunities and lays a strong foundation towards the goal of a developed India by 2047.

Prime Minister Modi said that this budget will give new impetus to the “reform express” on which India is riding today. Pathbreaking reforms provide open skies for the country’s courageous, talented, and aspirational youth to move forward.

The Prime Minister stated that India is not satisfied with merely being the fastest-growing economy, but wants to become the world’s third largest economy as soon as possible. It is the resolve of 1.4 billion citizens that India becomes the world’s third largest economy as soon as possible. He stated that India’s global role as a trusted democratic partner and reliable quality supplier is steadily strengthening.

The Prime Minister stated that important steps have been taken in the budget to ensure that the country’s youth, small and medium-sized enterprises, and the country’s economy benefit maximally from the major trade deals signed in recent years. He stated that the budget presents an ambitious roadmap to accelerate the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat campaigns.

Modi stated that this budget provides unprecedented support to sunrise sectors. To strengthen infrastructure, several major initiatives have been taken, including dedicated freight corridors, expansion of waterways across the country, high-speed rail corridors, development of tier-two and tier-three cities, and promotion of municipal bonds to economically empower cities.

The Prime Minister said that any country’s greatest asset is its citizens. Over the years, the government has consistently invested in skills, scale, and sustainability. He also emphasized promoting tourism, especially in Northeast India, ensuring balanced development by empowering states, and developing a modern ecosystem for women’s self-help groups.

The Prime Minister noted that over 100 million women are associated with self-help groups in the country, and this is a successful campaign. The budget prioritizes women-led self-help groups, ensuring that Goddess Lakshmi resides in every home.

He stated that the agriculture, dairy, and fisheries sectors remain top priorities for the government. This budget includes several important steps for farmers involved in coconut, cocoa, cashew, and sandalwood cultivation.

The Prime Minister said, “This is a unique budget, focusing on reducing the fiscal deficit and controlling inflation, while also emphasizing high capex and high growth. Our goal is to soon become the world’s third largest economy.”
