Lucknow, May 8: The world’s most destructive supersonic cruise missile ‘Brahmos’ will now be manufactured in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. Preparations are underway to inaugurate the Brahmos missile manufacturing unit on May 11 at the Lucknow node of Defense Industrial Corridor, the dream project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority’s (UPEIDA) ACEO Shrihari Pratap Shahi, who is supervising the Defense Industrial Corridor project, said that as per the wishes of the Chief Minister Yogi, the state government has provided land free of cost for the manufacturing of Brahmos missile and the development of the unit has been constantly monitored. In just three and a half years, this unit is ready for production. Preparations are on to make Brahmos as well as other defense equipment at the Lucknow node, which will give a new identity to Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh in the defense sector.
Chief Minister Yogi’s dream project This unit of Brahmos Aerospace in the Defense Industrial Corridor, the dream project of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has been built with an investment of Rs 300 crore and is a major achievement for India towards a self-reliant defense system. The most important thing is that the Yogi government had allotted 80 hectares of land in Lucknow free of cost for the Brahmos project in December 2021. Bringing this project from construction to production stage in just 3.5 years shows the commitment of the state government.
He said that India’s military power will get a new edge In view of the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, the manufacture of missiles like Brahmos in Uttar Pradesh is very important. This step will further strengthen India’s military strength and make Uttar Pradesh a state playing a special role in the defense of the country. With the start of this plant, Uttar Pradesh will directly contribute to the security and development of the country. This is a big and important project, in which Uttar Pradesh will have a major participation. This unit of Brahmos missile will be the first ultra-modern and high-tech unit of the state. This will lead to the development of aerospace units and industries in the defense corridor of Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, new and modern manufacturing techniques will also be started in the state.
According to the officer, 500 engineers and technicians will get employment. With the start of the ‘Brahmos’ project, the already existing aerospace companies in Uttar Pradesh will get many new opportunities according to their work and experience. This will also create technology for making new types of machines and testing facilities. This project will provide direct employment to about 500 engineers and technicians. Apart from this, several thousand skilled, semi-skilled and general working people will also get employment opportunities indirectly. Many people will also get work in other industries that help run this unit.
BrahMos is a joint venture of India and Russia. It is noteworthy that BrahMos Aerospace was established as a joint venture of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence of the Government of India and ‘JSC’ ‘MIC’ NPO Mashinostroyenia (MPOM) of the Government of the Russian Federation. The name ‘BrahMos’ is a symbol of two great nations, which reflects the ferocity of two great rivers – the fierceness of the Brahmaputra and the peace of Moskva. BrahMos Aerospace was established with 50.5 per cent stake from India and 49.5 percent from Russia.
This is the first defence joint venture (JV) of its kind, which has been established by the Government of India in collaboration with a foreign government. BrahMos Aerospace is responsible for the design, development, production and marketing of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, in which Indian and Russian industries actively contribute.
