Bareilly, February 7: The Bareilly police has opened history sheets of two major accused of defrauding people of approximately 1000 crore rupees under the guise of chit funds and money doubling schemes, apprised Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya on Saturday.

The SSP stated that Rajesh Maurya, accused of defrauding approximately 200 crore rupees, is currently in jail, while Kanhaiya Gulati, the main accused in the 800 crore rupee scam, is absconding. Several police teams are continuously conducting raids to arrest him. Gulati’s mobile numbers have been put on surveillance, and people close to him have also been targeted. Investigations have revealed that Kanhaiya Gulati, MD of the Canvis Group, has been active in the fraud business for the past decade. 61 cases have been filed against him so far. Of these, 55 cases have been registered in the Premnagar, Subhash Nagar, Baradari, Faridpur, Nawabganj, and Fatehganj West police stations in Bareilly district alone. Cases have also been registered in Ayodhya, Kasganj, Shahjahanpur, Ranchi in Jharkhand, and Begusarai in Bihar. Several new cases have been filed in the last six months following the intensification of action against the accused.

He informed that the SIT, led by Superintendent of Police Traffic Mohammad Akmal Khan, is investigating the cases registered in Bareilly. However, Gulati has not yet been arrested. The defrauded investors are continuously demanding the return of their deposits from the police and administration. Police have also taken strict action against the fraudster, Rajesh Maurya, who operated a network under the name Shri Ganga Infracity Private Limited in the Green Park area. On July 7, 2018, investors created a ruckus at his office after he was not refunded, following which he fled with his family. Police later arrested him in Ghaziabad.

The SSP Anurag Arya stated that history sheets have been opened against Kanhaiya Gulati and Rajesh Maurya at the Baradari police station. Police are rapidly filing charge sheets in the cases filed against the accused. Action to seal and auction their properties under the Gangster Act will also be initiated soon.
