Army pays tribute to 10 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in a road mishap

Jammu, January 23: The Tributes were paid to 10 soldiers who sacrificed their lives in a road accident on Thursday on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Officers from the Army, Indian Air Force, BSF, CRPF, police and civil administration were present at the ceremony held at the Technical Airport under the leadership of General Officer Commanding of White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P.K. Mishra.

Wreaths were laid on the mortal remains of the soldiers on behalf of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sain Tuti and Inspector General of CRPF, Jammu, R. Gopal Krishna Rao also laid wreaths on the coffins of the soldiers wrapped in the tricolour.

Officials said that the bodies of the martyred soldiers Monu of Bulandshahr-Hindam, Jobanjeet Singh (Rupnagar-Ambala), Mohit (Jhajjar-Hindam), Shailendra Singh Bhadoria (Morar-Gwalior), Samiran Singh (Jhargram-Kalaikonda), Pradumn Lohar (Purulia-Ranchi), Sudhir Narwal (Yamunanagar-Ambala), Hare Ram Kumar (Bhojpur-Bihta), Ajay Lakra (Ranchi) and Rinkhil Baliyan (Hapur-Hindam) are being sent to their hometowns for last rites.

Ten soldiers were killed and 11 others injured when an Army armoured vehicle carrying soldiers for an anti-terrorist operation at the 9,000-foot-high Khani peak on the Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate road fell into a deep gorge. The Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps described the incident as “unfortunate” and said the vehicle skidded off the road while passing through difficult terrain in bad weather.
