Azamgarh, 2 July: The Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav will perform ‘Griha Pravesh’ or housewarming ceremony on July 3 along with the inauguration of his newly built party office and residence in Azamgarh district.

During this, he will also address a public rally. Preparations have been completed for this. For about a week, MP Dharmendra Yadav has been taking stock of the preparations as well as holding assembly-wise workers’ meetings.

It is said in politics that the path to power in Uttar Pradesh passes through Purvanchal. Keeping this in mind, in January 2021, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav bought 38 biswa 16 kadi land in Maharajpur of Anwarganj adjoining the city on the Azamgarh-Lucknow main road (NH 233) in Azamgarh district from 11 farmers for Rs 6.5 crore. The construction of the house and party office on this land was going on under the supervision of MP Dharmendra Yadav and party officials. After the construction of the house and office, now SP national president Akhilesh Yadav is coming on July 3 for inauguration and housewarming. The party officials have completed preparations for the program.

It is noteworthy that Azamgarh district is called the stronghold of socialism. This can be gauged from the fact that SP had won all 10 seats in Azamgarh in the 2012 elections by doing a clean sweep. In the year 2017, it won 9 out of 10 seats and again in the year 2022, it won 10 out of 10 seats. There are two Lok Sabha seats in Azamgarh district, out of which Azamgarh seat is considered to be the traditional seat of SP. Mulayam Singh Yadav was elected MP from here in the year 2014, Akhilesh Yadav in the year 2019 and Dharmendra Yadav in 2024. Whereas in the Lok Sabha by-election held in the year 2022, Dharmendra Yadav of SP lost the election and Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua of BJP won. The reserved Lalganj seat of Azamgarh district was won by BJP in 2014, BSP in SP-BSP alliance in 2019 and SP in 2024.

Along with this, if we talk about Purvanchal, there are about 164 assembly seats in the 28 districts of Purvanchal. In the 2017 assembly elections, SP got only 14 seats in the Modi wave, while in the year 2022, SP won about 53 seats and despite this, SP had to be out of power both the times. This is the reason that SP’s national president Akhilesh Yadav will now manage Purvanchal from his new home to make a strong hold on Purvanchal including its stronghold Azamgarh.
