Air India turns logo black in mourning, flight services resumed at Ahmedabad airport

New Delhi/Ahmedabad, June 12: Tata-led Air India’s flight AI 171 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flying from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad, Gujarat to London’s Gatwick Airport, crashed in a residential area of โ€‹โ€‹Meghani Nagar on Thursday, just 2 minutes after takeoff.

After the accident, a massive fire broke out in the plane. There were 242 passengers including the crew on board the plane. There has been a huge loss of life in the accident. After this, Air India has turned its profile and logo black in mourning. At the same time, flight operations have resumed at Ahmedabad airport.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a statement, “Flight operations have resumed at Ahmedabad airport.” Air India flight number AI171 took off from Ahmedabad to London at 1:38 pm. The plane had 169 Indians, 53 passengers from Britain, 1 Canadian and 7 people from Portugal as well as crew members and pilots.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has activated an operational control room to coordinate all the details in view of the Air India flight number AI171 accident. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has released contact numbers: 011-24610843/9650391859. A help desk and help area is being set up outside the Ahmedabad airport for the relatives of the passengers.

According to the information received, the Air India plane sent the last signal at an altitude of 625 feet a few seconds after takeoff. After this it crashed in a residential area near Meghani Nagar, where it fell on the hostel mess of BJ Medical College. This accident caused a fierce fire and black smoke covered the sky. The horror of the accident can be gauged from the fact that only the tail part of the plane survived, the rest turned into debris.

Air India’s profile picture was black

A few hours after the plane crash, Air India changed its profile picture on its official X and Instagram accounts from its traditional red-white logo and golden window frame to black. This is a symbol of expressing condolence. Air India has issued helpline number 1800 5691 444.
