Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh recently found himself embroiled in controversy over a comment he made during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025, he reprised the role played by Rishab Shetty in ‘Kantara Chapter 1’.
As the video of the ceremony went viral, many people accused Ranveer of insulting Goddess Chamunda Devi. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti also filed a complaint. In light of the growing controversy, the actor clarified his position and apologized.
Ranveer Singh shared a post on Instagram, writing, “My intention was to praise Rishab Shetty’s amazing performance. I know how much hard work and dedication he put into that scene, and I am a huge fan of his. I have always respected every culture, tradition, and faith of the country. If anything I said hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologize.”
The controversy began when Ranveer Singh, while talking about “Kaantara Chapter 1” at the 56th IFFI in Goa, said, “I saw Kantara Chapter 1. Rishabh Shetty’s performance was superb. Especially when the ‘female ghost’ ‘referring to the Hindu Goddess’ comes inside you, you gave a wonderful shot.”
Many people found this comment objectionable, linking it to religious beliefs. Currently, Ranveer is busy promoting his upcoming film “Dhurandhar,” which is going to be released on December 5.
