Lucknow, 1 July: With the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the business of milk in the state is changing rapidly. Uttar Pradesh now ranks first in the country in terms of milk production.
Big companies doing milk business are showing interest in setting up their own dairy in UP. In the last four years, six investors, including Amul, have set up their dairy plants by investing Rs 172 crore. Action is being taken to set up seven dairy plants.
Apart from this, 15 investors offered to set up their units. Due to the enterprises being set up by big investors in the field of milk production, people have got employment in rural areas. Now the number of villagers doing milk business by rearing cows and buffaloes is increasing continuously. Overall, it can now be claimed that the milk business in UP is providing employment to the villagers.
Government figures show that Uttar Pradesh is the largest milk producing state in the country. The Uttar Pradesh accounts for more than 17% of the total milk production in India. Due to the efforts of the state government, UP is top in the country in milk production.
In the year 2016-17, 277.697 lakh metric tonnes of milk was produced in UP, which has increased to 318.630 lakh metric tonnes in 2020-21. This increase in milk production is being told as a result of the policies of the government.
According to officials, to boost milk production in the state, the state government started setting up greenfield dairies. These green field dairies are being set up at Kanpur, Lucknow, Varanasi, Meerut, Bareilly, Kannauj, Gorakhpur, Firozabad, Ayodhya and Moradabad.
To support this scheme, the work of upgradation of four old dairies of Jhansi, Noida, Aligarh and Prayagraj is also being done.
In the midst of such efforts of the government, big investors of the country took the initiative to set up their own dairy units in the state.
Soon a dairy unit of Purvanchal Agrico in Ghazipur, Shrestha Food in Bijnor, Desi Dairy in Meerut, New Amit Food in Gonda, Creamy Food in Bulandshahr and CP Milk Food has been set up in Lucknow and other people’s dairy units are being set up.
On the other hand, in order to promote milk production in the state, the state government is constructing a cow protection center and a cow forest in Bihar. Out of these, the construction work of 118 centers has also been completed. Apart from this, more than 66 thousand cows have been given under the Chief Minister’s Destitute Govansh Sahayog Yojana in the hand of willing cattle owners.
In order to promote cattle rearing and milk production, the state government has started giving Gokul Award and Nandbaba Award to the highest producer of milk from indigenous cows. For this, the government is giving credit cards of more than 12 lakh milk farmers registered in the state for the rural milk business in the villages.
Villagers are taking this scheme of the government hand-in-hand. Because there are about 21,537 milk societies in 75 districts of UP, about 1279,560 registered milk producers are associated with it. All these people are taking interest in taking advantage of Kisan Credit Card.
Apart from encouraging the farmers towards milk business, the state government is also getting the cattle vaccinated to improve the breed of animals. Due to these efforts of the government, the number of milch animals in the state is continuously increasing. Due to which milk production is increasing every year in the state and now people are getting employment from the business of milk in rural areas.
