Ex diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu takes oath as new LG Delhi

New Delhi, March 11: Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi on Wednesday.

The Chief Justice of Delhi High Court Devendra Kumar Upadhyay administered the oath of office to Taranjit Singh Sandhu as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in a ceremony held at Lok Niwas. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present at the ceremony.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu replaced Vinay Kumar Saxena. Vinay Kumar Saxena has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Before taking the oath, Taranjit Singh Sandhu met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence today. During this, the two had a fruitful discussion on issues related to public service and governance.

It is noteworthy that the President had appointed senior diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi on March 5. He has served as India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and India’s 28th Ambassador to the United States.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu was born on January 23, 1963, in Punjab. He completed his schooling at Lawrence School, Sanawar. He then earned a BA degree in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He also earned an MA degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University.

After the swearing-in, the Delhi Chief Minister addressed the media in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Sandhu, saying, “She welcomes the Lieutenant Governor. You have come here to further develop Delhi. We are confident that your presence will further accelerate Delhi’s progress. Delhi’s problems will be resolved more effectively. Under his guidance, the Delhi government will act as directed.”
