Mumbai, May 06: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi has banned the sale of liquor in the city altogether. Due to this, all liquor shops in the city are closed on Wednesday.

Praveen Pardeshi issued a new government order (GO) on Wednesday, completely prohibiting the sale of liquor.

Similarly, the state government has also stopped the order to open 5 shops in a single row.

Praveen Pardeshi said that the number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai has mounted around 10,000. After the liquor shops were allowed to open, there has been a huge crowd gathered at the wine shop. Due to non-compliance of social distancing during the sale of alcohol, liquor and other shops are being banned.

On Sunday, the state government announced a waiver of lockdown in the state. With this, liquor shops were started on Monday.

Commissioner of the Excise Department Kantilal Umap said that on Monday and Tuesday, liquor worth Rs 62 crore 55 lakh was sold in Mumbai. All the liquor shops in the city have been closed following the Mumbai Commissioner’s Wednesday order.
