Patna, March 8: Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, formally joined the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) on Sunday. The party’s national executive president Sanjay Jha confers membership.
Several senior party leaders, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) and JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha, were present. However, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not attend the event.
After joining the JDU, Nishant Kumar said, “I thank everyone. I will try to live up to the trust you have placed in me. I am proud of the work my father has done for Bihar and the country over the last 20 years.”
On this occasion, Union Minister and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Rajya Sabha candidate Ram Nath Thakur said that Nishant Kumar’s joining the party is welcome. He added that JDU workers and the general public had desired that Nishant Kumar join the party and listen to the public’s problems.
Meanwhile, former Bihar government minister and JDU MLA Ratnesh Sada said that Nishant Kumar is the future of Bihar and will work towards completing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s unfinished tasks.
It is worth noting that Nitish Kumar has long kept his family away from politics. Consequently, his son’s entry into politics could raise accusations of nepotism. However, JDU leaders maintain that this decision is not Nitish Kumar’s personal decision but the result of demands from party leaders, workers, and the public.
It is noteworthy that Nishant Kumar has been continuously meeting party MLAs for the past two days. He held talks with senior JDU leaders and MLAs at the Chief Minister’s residence and also held a meeting with some young MLAs at Sanjay Jha’s residence.
Nishant Kumar’s political training process has begun under the supervision of the party’s National Executive President Sanjay Jha and State President Umesh Kushwaha. There is also a growing buzz in political circles that he may be given a major responsibility in the JDU in the future, and a new leadership may emerge within the party.
