Rajya Sabha polls: BJP announces names of 9 candidates, including Nitin Nabin Sinha

New Delhi, March 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced the names of nine Rajya Sabha candidates, including the name of the party’s national president, Nitin Nabin, who has been nominated from Bihar.

In a release, the BJP said that the Central Election Committee (CEC) has approved the following names for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections to be held in various states: Nitin Nabin and Shivesh Kumar from Bihar. The BJP has nominated Terash Gowalia and Jogen Mohan from Assam. Lakshmi Verma from Chhattisgarh, Sanjay Bhatia from Haryana, Manmohan Samal and Sujit Kumar from Odisha, and Rahul Sinha from West Bengal.

It is noteworthy that only one day remains in the nomination process for the Rajya Sabha elections. Elections are scheduled for March 16 for 37 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states, including Bihar. Voting will be held for seven seats in Maharashtra, six in Tamil Nadu, five each in Bihar and West Bengal, four in Odisha, three in Assam, two each in Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Haryana and one seat in Himachal Pradesh.

The notification for five seats in Bihar was issued on February 26. The last date for nomination is March 5. Due to Holi holidays on March 3 and 4, only March 5 is left for filing nominations. The five members from Bihar whose term is ending in April include Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Union Ministers Ramnath Thakur, Premchand Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh and Upendra Kushwaha.
