New Delhi, February 22: Under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister and Chairman of State Names Authority (SNA) Rekha Gupta, the names of some old and new stations of Delhi Metro have been changed.

At the same time, some names have been kept as suggested in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Announcing this decision on Sunday, the Chief Minister stated that after reviewing the names of 21 stations proposed in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s (DMRC) Detailed Project Report (DPR), the authority has decided to retain 12 names, modify seven, and change the names of two stations. However, the name Seva Tirtha Metro Station is not included in the review list. The

Chief Minister stated that several important considerations were taken into account when renaming the stations, including the local identity of the area, its historical, social, and cultural significance, and recommendations received from local public representatives and citizens.

She stated that the names were chosen in a way that would avoid confusion for passengers and ensure a clear geographical identity of the area. Where necessary, combined names combining the names of nearby prominent areas were also approved to facilitate navigation.

The metro station names retained are Majlis Park, Bhalswa, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Deepali Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Bhajanpura, Khajuri Khas, Surghat, Jharodha Majra, Burari, Pushpanjali, and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The revised station names include North Pitampura-Prashant Vihar (formerly Prashant Vihar), Jagatpur-Wazirabad (formerly Jagatpur), Nanak Piau-Derawal Nagar (formerly Deraval Nagar), Khanpur-Vayusainabad (formerly Khanpur), Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar (formerly Sonia Vihar), Shri Ram Mandir Mayur Vihar (formerly Mayur Vihar Pocket-1), and Mangolpur Kalan-West Enclave (formerly West Enclave). The completely changed names include Haiderpur Village (formerly North Pitampura) and Madhuban Chowk (Pitampura). The station’s name has been completely changed to reflect the region’s local identity.

The Chief Minister stated that she has ensured that each station’s name reflects regional reality and public sentiment. The State Naming Authority has decided on each proposal after factual examination and detailed discussion.

She also stated that in the future, if a logical and public interest-based proposal is received from any region, the Authority will consider it in accordance with the rules and standards.
