Stern action against executives for ignoring Public Representatives, warns UP Assembly Speaker in his over 15 min speech

Lucknow, February 18: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker, addressing the issue of officials not listening to public representatives, not picking up calls, and not providing appropriate answers, said in the House on Wednesday that strict action should be taken against officials who do not pick up calls or ignore public representatives.

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana said in the Assembly on Wednesday that political workers who work solely for elections are merely politicians, but those who work for the next generation are called statesmen. The public has placed us in these positions, so it is our responsibility to take care of the next generation along with the next election. We gather here primarily for the public’s work, and the public has elected us here as their representatives. Therefore, whether we are in the ruling party or the opposition, we must discharge our constitutional responsibilities and the role assigned to us with honesty and complete integrity.

Speaker Mahana requested the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs to issue necessary directives regarding the matter presented at the government level and to strictly enforce the orders already issued. Failure by officials to comply with government orders is a violation of their service rules. It would be appropriate that if officials are not complying with the orders issued by the government regarding MLAs, strict disciplinary action be taken as per the rules. The

Speaker of the Assembly stated that democracy is the reason we are all here. The public has placed their trust in us. We will protect this public trust at all costs. It is expected that the necessary action be taken in relation to the matter presented under constitutional provisions and an example be set to prevent such acts from recurring in the future. It is expected that work should be done in accordance with the government procedure.

The Speaker informed the House that on Tuesday, February 17, the Leader of the Opposition and his colleagues submitted a notice under Rule 300 of the Rules of Conduct and Procedure of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, stating that the executive was interfering in the jurisdiction of the legislature and the judiciary. The notice was accepted as it was in the context of the provisions of the Constitution. SP Chief Whip Kamal Akhtar, Member Sangram Yadav, Dr Ragini also raised this issue and expressed their views.
