New Delhi, February 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday described intelligence, rationality, and decision-making as the foundation for making science and technology useful for the common man.

He said that advanced technology like artificial intelligence (AI) is meaningful only when used for the overall welfare of society.

Referring to the India AI Impact Summit, the Prime Minister said that the main objective of this summit is to discuss how to effectively use artificial intelligence for the benefit of all. He clarified that India is advancing technology with a human-centric approach.

Sharing a Sanskrit proverb on the social media platform ‘X’, the Prime Minister mentioned the qualities of intelligence, writing,

“Shushrusha Shravanaam Chaiva Grahanam Dharanaam Tatha.

Uhaapoho’arthvijnanam Tattvajnanam Cha Dhigunaah.

The meaning of this proverb is the desire to learn, to listen attentively, to understand correctly, to retain it, to reason, to deeply understand the meaning, and to know the truth. These qualities are all qualities of ‘dhi’ (intellect).

The Prime Minister said that these qualities are essential for the development and responsible use of AI. Technical proficiency alone is not enough; discretion, ethics, and a sense of social welfare are equally important.

He expressed confidence that by bringing about positive change through AI in areas such as education, health, agriculture, and good governance, India will make technology a powerful tool for public welfare.
