Azamgarh, February 11: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team has raided the temporary residence of Maulana Shamsul Huda, who has taken British citizenship, on Wednesday.

British Maulana’s temporary residence is in Mubarakpur of Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, while his old house is in Sant Kabir Nagar district. The team had taken action there as well.

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr Anil Kumar said that the ED team had raided the temporary residence in Mubarakpur this morning. After a few hours of intensive search, the team went back. The police is not aware of what the team found during the action.

The SSP stated that Shamsul Huda Khan, originally from Sant Kabir Nagar district, was appointed as an assistant teacher at the Madrasa “Darul Uloom Ahle Sunnat Madrasa Ashrafia Misbahul Uloom” in Azamgarh on July 12, 1984. He moved to the UK in 2007 and obtained British citizenship in 2013.

It is alleged that even after acquiring British citizenship, he continued to draw salary from the Madrasa until July 31, 2017. Due to departmental collusion, he was granted irregular medical leave. He illegally received approximately 1.6 million rupees in salary. He was also granted voluntary retirement in 2017. In this case, the government had already revoked the Madrasa’s recognition and suspended Joint Director of the Minority Welfare Department, SN Pandey, Ghaziabad DMO Sahitya Nikit Singh, Bareilly’s Lalman, and Amethi’s Prabhat Kumar. They are accused of providing benefits during their posting in Azamgarh.
