Lucknow, January 29: In a major action, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested suspected terrorist Faizan from Navsari, Gujarat. A pistol and six cartridges were recovered from him. He is a resident of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh.
Initial investigations have accused him of acquiring weapons with the intention of spreading terror. Given the seriousness of the case, the Uttar Pradesh ATS has also become active and has left for Ahmedabad to interrogate Faizan about his connections and close associates in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the Gujarat ATS, he used to work as a tailor in Navsari, living near the Aqsa Mosque. He was arrested by the Gujarat ATS on Tuesday. His mobile phone was seized and examined, revealing chats containing Jaish-e-Mohammed propaganda videos, extremist speeches, and videos of terrorists like Farhatullah Ghori. Other banned material was also found. Anti-national photographs and some important documents were also recovered from his mobile.
The Gujarat ATS and the investigating agency are claiming that during interrogation, accused Faizan confessed that he had been in contact with Abu Bakr for six-seven months. He had joined a group three months ago. He had purchased weapons from someone in Uttar Pradesh six months ago. His aim was to spread terror by carrying out targeted killings.
During interrogation, some important inputs related to the terrorist conspiracy were received. Based on this, the investigating agency is investigating. UP ATS is also gathering information about his close associates and hideouts in Rampur.
