Bengaluru, January 20: The Karnataka government has suspended Ramachandra Rao, Director General (DG) of the State Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate and senior IPS officer, after an alleged pornographic video went viral on social media.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the state government has also ordered a departmental inquiry into the entire incident. A day before his suspension, Ramachandra Rao had gone on a 10-day leave.
In fact, the viral NSFW ( not safe for work) clip circulating on social media allegedly shows Ramachandra Rao in a compromising position with a woman. The video caused a stir in administrative and political circles, prompting the government to take swift action and suspend him from his post.
It is noteworthy that this is not the first time Ramachandra Rao has been embroiled in controversy. Earlier, the Home Department had ordered an investigation into his role in the case of actress Ranya Rao, who was arrested for allegedly smuggling gold from Dubai. It was reported that questions had been raised about actress Ranya Rao’s stepfather, Ramachandra Rao, being provided protocol facilities at the airport, and the investigation is ongoing.
According to official sources, a departmental inquiry has been initiated to thoroughly investigate the viral video and all related facts. Further action will be decided based on the investigation report. The government is currently closely monitoring the entire matter, while the opposition has also demanded transparency and accountability from the government regarding the issue.
