Ghaziabad’s female cop ‘reportedly’ known as Lady Singham held-suspended and now sent to 14 day judicial custody for taking bribe

Ghaziabad, January 14: A lady police officer Bhuvaneshwari, known as Lady Singham in Ghaziabad Police, arrested on charges of taking bribe, was sent to judicial custody for 14 days on the orders of the court.

The lady inspector had demanded money in exchange for removing the name of an accused in a dowry harassment case.

The police administration has suspended Inspector Bhuvaneshwari and ordered a departmental inquiry.

Late on Tuesday evening, the Anti-Corruption Team arrested Lady Inspector Bhuvaneshwari red-handed while taking a bribe.

The Sahibabad police station filed a report based on the complaint of the Anti-Corruption Team. Lady Inspector Bhuvaneshwari was part of the first all-women police encounter team of the UP Police in Ghaziabad last year, which was carried out only by women police personnel. This encounter was in the headlines across the country.

Keshav Prasad, Additional Police Commissioner of Ghaziabad Police Commissionerate, stated that Rampal Saini, a resident of Sahibabad, filed a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Team, Meerut, on January 9. Rampal alleges that Bhuvaneshwari, the female sub-inspector investigating the case filed by his daughter-in-law against his son at the women’s police station, threatened to make him and other family members accused and demanded a bribe of 45,000 rupees.

The APC further told that it is alleged that the female sub-inspector demanded 100,000 rupees. According to the victim, after his son, Gaurav Saini, tried to persuade him, Bhuvaneshwari agreed to pay the 45,000 rupees and not to include anyone else’s name in the case. According to the victim, he agreed to pay the money out of compulsion.

He stated that the anti-corruption team investigated the matter and found the case to be true. The anti-corruption team informed the Ghaziabad police about the matter. Meanwhile, the female sub-inspector threatened the complainant over the phone and summoned him to the Sahibabad police station. Meanwhile, the anti-corruption team caught Inspector Bhuvaneshwari while she was accepting the powder-coated notes. Subsequently, Inspector Bhuvaneshwari was arrested. On Wednesday, the accused Inspector Bhuvaneshwari was produced before the Anti-Corruption Court in Meerut, from where she was sent to jail in judicial custody for 14 days.

The Additional CP said that following the action of the anti-corruption team, the lady inspector has been suspended. A departmental inquiry has also been ordered against her.
