Lucknow, January 9: Junior resident Dr Rameez Uddin Nayak, accused of sexually exploiting a woman under the false promise of marriage and forcing her to undergo an abortion, will have his admission cancelled and will be barred from further studies.

The KGMU administration has sent a letter to the Director General of Medical Education (DGME) regarding this. This information was given by KGMU Vice Chancellor Prof Sonia Nityanand in a press conference on Friday.

However, information about the alleged aides who protected the resident doctor of the Pathology Department, accused of attempted religious conversion at the KGMU, has not been revealed. The role of two professors, who were suspected during the investigation, has not yet been clarified by the KGMU administration, nor have they been given a clean chit.

The KGMU spokesperson KK Singh stated that no conclusions can be reached regarding this matter at this time.

It is alleged that Rameez, a resident doctor in the pathology department, lured a female resident doctor into a love affair. When the marriage proposal came to light, the accused began pressuring her to convert to Islam. When the victim resisted, she was threatened, leading to mental distress, leading her to attempt suicide by consuming sleeping pills. When her condition worsened, she was admitted to the Trauma Center, where she recovered after treatment.

Following the incident, the victim filed a complaint with the KGMU administration, police, the Chief Minister’s IGRs portal, and the State Women’s Commission. The administration and investigative agencies swung into action after the incident surfaced.

The KGMU spokesperson KK Singh stated that two committees at KGMU were investigating the case. The Vishakha Committee is investigating the sexual harassment allegations, while a seven-member committee, including a retired Director General of Police, is investigating the conversion case. The Vishakha Committee’s investigation report was submitted to the Vice Chancellor on Thursday. Following the Vishaka Committee report, KGMU Vice Chancellor Professor Sonia Nityananda has sent a letter to the DGME regarding the cancellation of Dr Rameez’s admission.
