Lucknow, January 4: A 65-year-old man shot himself with on Sunday morning in the Krishnanagar police station area of โโLucknow. The body of a retired home guard was found lying in a pool of blood in the courtyard of his home. His licensed gun was lying near the body, police informed.
Upon being informed about the incident, police rushed to the scene and began the probe with the forensic team. Preliminary investigations indicate the case appears to be a suicide.
According to police, at around 9 a.m. on Sunday, information was received from the village of Kanosi in the Krishnanagar police station area that an elderly man had shot himself. Upon arriving at the scene, the police team found the body of Madan Gopal Verma (65), son of the late Babulal Verma, a resident of Kanosi, lying in the courtyard of the house. The body was covered in blood, and his licensed 12-bore rifle was found nearby. He died on the spot from gunshot wounds. The deceased was formerly retired from the Home Guard Department.
Krishnanagar Police Station in-charge Pradyuman Kumar Singh stated that upon receiving information, police forces immediately arrived at the scene. Madan Gopal’s body was found in the courtyard of his house, along with his licensed 12-bore gun.
SHO further added that questioning of family members revealed that the deceased had been ill for a long time and was mentally disturbed. Prima facie, the case appears to be a suicide. A forensic team was called to the scene and evidence was collected. The body was taken into custody, the Panchayatnama process was completed, and it was sent for post-mortem. The licensed gun has been taken into police custody. Further legal proceedings are underway in the case.
